Transition Season at LT Learning Tree

Bittersweet Goodbyes and New Beginnings

As the season shifts, so does our daycare community. Each year around this time, we find ourselves filled with anticipation as we welcome new families and eager young learners into our program. Simultaneously, we feel the inevitable sadness of saying goodbye to the children moving on to preschool, transitional kindergarten (TK), and kindergarten.

This moment is always emotional—for providers, children, and parents alike. And while we celebrate progress, we also acknowledge the strong bonds built over time.

Understanding the Emotional Side of Transitions

Transitions, while natural, can trigger emotional and behavioral changes in young children. Studies show that:

  • Toddlers may experience increased clinginess or distress during changes in care settings.
  • Familiar caregiver-child relationships act as an emotional buffer, helping children adapt more smoothly to their new environments.
  • Children who experience responsive, high-quality care are more likely to demonstrate stronger self-regulation and social-emotional skills in later academic settings.

These changes also affect providers, who feel both proud and emotional watching children move on. The reality is this: early education is not just about preparation for school—it is the foundation of a child’s confidence, sense of safety, and love of learning.

A Message to Parents: Communicate With Clarity and Transparency

At LT Learning Tree, we approach transitions seriously and with great care. We ask families to do the same. Transparent communication helps us support your child’s development and ensure a smooth, respectful transition for everyone involved.

I. Notify Early

  • Please provide notice two to three months in advance when your child is preparing to move on.
  • This allows us to begin preparing your child emotionally and academically for the next stage.

II. Be Direct

  • We understand that families have evolving needs—program changes, logistical considerations, or school placement decisions.
  • Clear communication prevents misunderstandings and promotes a professional and respectful transition.

III. Allow Us to Support the Transition

We offer a number of supports to make the process smoother:

  • Visual and verbal preparation through classroom routines
  • Reading books and stories about “moving up”
  • Talking positively about the new environment, new teachers, and future milestones
  • Creating memory crafts or goodbye activities that give children a sense of closure

IV. Celebrate the Journey

We believe that transitions are important milestones. Together, we can celebrate:

  • Your child’s growth
  • The relationships built
  • The successful completion of an important early chapter in their life

Why It Matters

Open, honest communication between families and providers is essential for effective childcare. At LT Learning Tree, we value professionalism, integrity, and mutual respect. These principles guide how we serve children, collaborate with parents, and uphold our commitment to early childhood excellence.

When families communicate clearly and early:

  • Children feel more emotionally secure during transitions.
  • Providers can adjust curriculum or routines to prepare the child effectively.
  • The entire community benefits from respectful, aligned decision-making.

Closing Thoughts

To the families who are preparing to move on: thank you for allowing us to be part of your child’s early years. We are proud of their growth and confident in their readiness to succeed in the next chapter. Please know that you and your child will always be part of the LT Learning Tree family.

To our incoming families: welcome. We look forward to beginning this new journey with you—grounded in trust, guided by experience, and focused on each child’s development.

Respectfully,

LT Learning Tree Home Daycare
